Oregon Dog Rescue (ODR) takes in dogs in need of a new home and provides interim housing, medical care, socialization, and training for the animals as necessary. Our volunteers work to ensure that all of the animals we take in are placed successfully in permanent homes.

Dogs come to ODR from a variety of sources, including local shelters and individuals, and occasionally large confiscations. We only accept dogs which we believe have the potential, after living in our care and working with us for some time, to be successfully placed in a new home.

In addition to addressing the dog’s physical health, we also observe his/her behavior carefully. We determine how to work with the animal to develop the tools and confidence it will need to fit into a new relationship that will benefit both dog and owner. Many of the dogs we care for have not received any training, and show remarkable progress after just a short time in our care.

The dogs in our care live in foster homes. Before being placed in a foster home, they are given necessary medical attention, as well as being bathed and groomed.

We evaluate each dog regularly to determine if he/she is ready to be placed in a permanent home. We create a profile for each dog and work to determine what sort of home that will work best for that dog. Some dogs do not like children; some prefer homes without other dogs or cats. We use this information to screen adopters for each dog.
