We believe that it is in the best interest of the dogs in our care to live with foster families. Our goal is to place our dogs with families in loving homes, and we find that their time with foster families helps prepare them for a successful adoption, and also provides us with information that will help us find the right family. Fostering is rewarding work and we are always looking for volunteers to provide a happy experience for our pooches before they are adopted by new families.

Generally, people who wish to foster are asked to arrive at the Tualatin Petsmart at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoons, just after our weekly adoption event is over. We can then assess which dog would be most appropriate for the home. Oregon Dog Rescue provides the necessary supplies (crate, bedding, food, toys, etc.), as well as training instructions. Most of our dogs require fostering for a week at a time, although some dogs require longer-term rehabilitation.

During the week, the foster parent is asked to care for the dog, provide medications if necessary, and report their observations when they return the pet to Oregon Dog Rescue in time for the following week’s adoption event. The foster parent may also be asked to provide information about the dog’s behavior to potential adopters. People interested in fostering are welcome to visit us on adoption days at Petsmart, introduce themselves, and ask questions about our foster program.
